Our Co-founders

Dr. Anyi Atabong

Dr. Anyi Atabong, DNP, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC Executive Director

Bio: Anyinke Atabong, DNP, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, is an experienced nurse practitioner with over 20 years in the healthcare field. She brings a broad clinical background in evidence-based mental health and primary care, dedicated to enhancing patient well-being, improving treatment outcomes, and driving positive changes in healthcare. As the co-founder of Capital Multi Health Group, she is committed to transforming knowledge into action to reduce health disparities and is a huge advocate for culturally sensitive care. This also led to her appointment as Commissioner of African Affairs for the State of Maryland under the administration of Governor Wes Moore, where she also chairs the Health Committee.

Dr. Atabong is also an adjunct professor at Coppin State University’s Helene Fuld School of Nursing, where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She obtained her Post Masters Psychiatric Mental Health Certificate from the University of Cincinnati and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from Duke University.

Her true passion lies in mentoring nurses, engaging in community outreach, and challenging mental health stigmas both within her profession and beyond. She is currently a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (NPAM), and DNPs of Color, where she serves as Chair of the Global Affairs Committee.

Dr. LeTizia Smith

Dr. LeTizia Smith DNP, PMHNP-BC Director of Programs

Bio: LeTizia Baxter Smith, DNP, PMHNP-BC, is a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with nearly two decades of clinical experience. She attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate degree and completed her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Vanderbilt School of Nursing. She then completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) at Emory School of Nursing.

Dr. Smith is an active member of multiple national professional organizations including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioners (NONPF). She was also chosen to be a SAMHSA Minority Fellow from 2018–2020 and serves on the DNPs of Color Advisory Committee.

Currently, Dr. Smith is on the faculty at Vanderbilt School of Nursing, where she is the Interim Director of Community Partnerships. She has a passion for healthy work environments, mental health education, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Kirby Williams, MSN, PMHNP-BC Director of Operations

Bio: Kirby P. Williams, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner with specialized psychiatric training from the University of Virginia. She has been practicing as a mental health nurse practitioner since 2012 and has a strong commitment to mentoring and supporting future psychiatric nurse practitioners. From 2013 to 2022, she worked in nursing academia at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, covering a wide range of mental health topics and courses.

In 2019, Kirby founded the Black PMHNP Collective of Virginia to address the unique challenges and empower Black Psych NPs.

As the owner of Beacon Behavioral Health and Consulting, her private practice, Kirby provides psychiatric services for adults in Virginia.

Her passion for mentoring and teaching psychiatric nurse practitioners (and students) led her to establish The PMHNP Source, LLC, an education and professional development company. Through this business, she has developed digital products and a membership community designed to empower, guide, and support new psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners on their career journeys.
